Track USCIS Case Status Online

Track your application/case through the USCIS online case status lookup tool. This tool is entirely free to use and web-based so that you don’t need to submit or file any physical documents to see your case status. 

To track USCIS case status online, all you need is the case number related to your application. The case number is shown as the receipt number on your application. This is a unique 13-digit/characters number that’s assigned to each application you file. If you have more than one pending case, make sure to track their status using the case number for each one of them.

Case number / receipt number

Your case number is shown on the I-797 you received, also known as Notice of Action. You will get this document about two to three weeks after submitting your application. I-797 may arrive a little longer than expected for more complex inquiries and applications. If you find yourself waiting for an unusual period of time, contact the USCIS and ask the whereabouts of your Notice of Action.

Looking up the case status

Once you get your Notice of Action, you can track the status of your case using the receipt number on the USCIS website. Here is a step-by-step breakdown to help guide you in looking up the status of your application.

1. Go to the USCIS case number lookup tool.
2. Enter your receipt/case number on the tool.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions, and voila, you’ll have everything that’s available on your application. 

Note that it may take a while before any results are displayed on the tracking tool. It usually takes about a week for the results to be shown on the case status lookup tool after the Notice of Action is sent to your address.

Contact the USCIS in case you don’t see anything about your application. Again, it may take a while, but if you see no results on the tracking tool a bit after receiving the Notice of Action.
