Application for Deferred or Postponed Retirement – FERS
FERS Deferred Retirement
FERS deferred retirement is simply when you leave your service now but get FERS pension later on. However, your FEHB won’t start again.
FERS Postponed Retirement
FERS postponed retirement isn’t all that different. However, postponed FERS retirement simply allows you to keep your FEHB coverage when you start getting your pension. The difference between the two is as simple as that.
Computing the Tax Free Portion of a Phased Retirement Annuity and Subsequent Composite Retirement Annuity
Computing the Tax Free Portion of a Phased Retirement Annuity
One of the other forms, the form used to compute the tax-free portion of phased retirement annuity is used to do just that. Federal employees receive a pension under the FERS or CSRS retirement systems. Therefore, a portion of it is going to be tax-free. Federal employees who are retiring can use the form to determine this amount. Since everyone’s tax-free portion is going to be different, you can use the form to see it for yourself.
Subsequent Composite Retirement Annuity
When you compute the tax-free portion of your retirement, you’ll need the include the “Simplified Formula adjusted for the total tax-free amount allowed for the phased retirement.” An example of it can be seen in the image above.
