The Office of Personnel Management regulates more than 30 forms for retirement and insurance. Under retirement forms, there are three separate ones that federal employees can use for retirement-related plans.

Each of these forms has a different purpose. While the second and third forms above is quite easy to complete, the application for deferred or postponed retirement form takes some knowledge on FERS retirement to complete.

All of the forms can be seen below with their brief explanation. You can fill out, download, and print all three of the forms.

Application for Deferred or Postponed Retirement – FERS

FERS Deferred Retirement

FERS deferred retirement is simply when you leave your service now but get FERS pension later on. However, your FEHB won’t start again.

FERS Postponed Retirement

FERS postponed retirement isn’t all that different. However, postponed FERS retirement simply allows you to keep your FEHB coverage when you start getting your pension. The difference between the two is as simple as that.

Computing the Tax Free Portion of a Phased Retirement Annuity

One of the other forms, the form used to compute the tax-free portion of phased retirement annuity is used to do just that. Federal employees receive a pension under the FERS or CSRS retirement systems. Therefore, a portion of it is going to be tax-free. Federal employees who are retiring can use the form to determine this amount. Since everyone’s tax-free portion is going to be different, you can use the form to see it for yourself.

When you compute the tax-free portion of your retirement, you’ll need the include the “Simplified Formula adjusted for the total tax-free amount allowed for the phased retirement.” An example of it can be seen in the image above.

FERCCA Election Form

The elections you can make under FERCCA are simple.

If you were put in FERS and belong in CSRS, CSRS Offset, or Social Security only coverage, you may choose between FERS and what you belong in.

If you were put in CSRS or CSRS Offset, you may choose between FERS or Social Security only coverage with what you belong in.
