Amid the increase in gas prices worldwide, many states are implementing ways to help commuters at the gas pump. Florida had tried to remove the gas tax altogether way before the price increases back in November 2021. DeSantis proposed that the gas tax should be waived, but didn’t happen. At the time of writing this article, it remains that way and Florida continues to collect taxes at the pump.
Florida gas tax totals at 26.5 cents per gallon. The gas tax is different for diesel, which is 18.4 cents per gallon. Although the Florida tax rate is significantly lower than many other states, DeSantis, the governor of the state, is still pushing for abolishing the tax at the pump.
Whether or not this will happen is something to see over the next couple of weeks. If the gas prices continue rising the same way, waiving the gas tax in Florida is something more than likely to happen.
