Texas Title Transfer Form 130-U
Application for Texas Title and/or Registration Form 130-U is used by new vehicle owners to establish ownership and ensure proper car registration in the state of Texas. All parties with an actual or legal interest in the vehicle should fill out this document.
The Texas Title Transfer Form 130-U is an official state document that must be completed to transfer vehicle ownership. It is required to be accompanied by an Affidavit of Motor Vehicle Gift Transfer (Texas Comptroller’s Form 14-317) and signed by the donor and recipient. It is important to complete the application correctly so that CTAC can properly process the transaction and collect motor vehicle tax. The form requires information about the vehicle, including its year, make, model, and VIN. It also requires the applicant’s name, address, and contact information. If the vehicle has a lien, the applicant must provide the name of the lienholder.
Unlike some states, Texas does not require that signatures on title transfers be notarized. However, you should be aware that if there are any errors in the information on the form or signatures, it could result in delays and additional costs. To avoid this, it is important to carefully review all of the information on the form and make sure that it is accurate before signing. Also, make sure that you use blue or black ink to sign the document. Incorrect or unreadable signatures will void the form.
How to File Form 130-U?
To file a 130-U, you must have the original vehicle title or MCO and a proof of insurance in the name of the purchaser. If the buyer is from out of state, a bill of sale from the seller will also be required. In addition, the seller and buyer must complete an odometer statement (all persons named on the title must sign) if the original title or MCO does not contain space for the odometer reading. A release of lien statement is also required if the original title or MCO has a lien recorded on it.
If a vehicle is purchased from a dealer, the dealership will file the title application on behalf of the buyer. If the vehicle is purchased from an individual, the buyer or lienholder must submit the title application in person to the county tax office. The application must be accompanied by a copy of the previous title. The vehicle must be inspected by a state-approved safety inspection station to verify its identity and registration information.
Fees
A fee of $90 must be paid if the vehicle is brought into the state from another country or state. This fee is in addition to the standard presumptive value (SPV) tax. Transfer penalties can be applied if a vehicle is not transferred within 30 days of the date of sale or entry into Texas. It is, therefore, important to ensure that all forms and documents are submitted correctly and on time. If a vehicle is being gifted to a family member, the donor and recipient should complete an Affidavit of Motor Vehicle Gift Transfer along with the title application. In addition, a $10 gift tax must be paid to the county tax office.
