If you’re looking to renew your standard Minnesota driver’s license or ID card, you can now do it online. However, this option is only available if you don’t need to change your name, address or signature. You’ll still need to visit a DVS office or deputy registrar’s office in person to make any other changes.

You can also obtain a duplicate Minnesota driver’s license or identification card at a Dakota County service and license center. These locations can provide a same-day license if you submit the proper identification requirements. You can find more information about these requirements on the DVS website. You’ll need proof of identity, date of birth, and a photograph. In addition, you’ll need to pay a fee of around $17.

Your standard Minnesota driver’s license or state ID expires every four years on your birthday. If you are under 21 and want to remain eligible for a regular driver’s license, renew it 3 weeks before your birthday. Starting October 1, 2021, you will need a REAL-ID or another form of federally approved identification to board domestic flights or enter certain federal facilities.
