The court considers parents’ combined net income and the number of nights children spend with each parent over a year.

Parents must agree to share the cost of raising their children when they divorce. This includes a monthly amount to cover basic living expenses like housing, food, and clothing. In addition, parents must also pay for extra expenses like education, health insurance deductibles and day care. Florida child support laws use a formula to calculate the amount of money each parent must contribute. These guidelines are based on the average monthly net income of both parties.

Florida Child Support Amounts

Florida state’s child support guidelines require both parents to pay a certain amount to their children. This calculation takes into account income from both parties as well as certain expenses. Some of these include daycare costs and other employment-related childcare expenses. In addition, health insurance payments are considered an expense and must be subtracted from gross income.

The formula used in Florida is called the “Income Shares Model.” This model approximates the total cash parents would spend on their children if they lived together as a family. The court will calculate the net incomes of both parents and then compare them to a chart that shows how much support should be paid at each income level.

The court will then decide how to collect and disburse the child support payment. This can be through an income deduction order or directly to the parent. The judge can also use a variety of enforcement measures to ensure the child support obligation is fulfilled. These measures may include freezing the noncustodial parent’s bank accounts or putting liens on their property. They can also report the noncustodial parent to consumer reporting agencies and possibly suspend their driver’s license.

For combined monthly net income greater than the amount in the guidelines schedule, the obligation is the minimum amount of support provided by the guidelines schedule plus the following percentages multiplied by the amount of income over $10,000:
