Who can claim this credit with Form 2441?

There are requirements for claiming the child and dependent care expenses credit, just like any other credit or deduction. Claim this credit if you’re hiring someone for the benefit of children under 13, or disabled spouse, or dependent regardless of the age who are physically or mentally incapable of caring for themselves.

One thing to keep in mind about the child and dependent care expenses credit is that you can hire your adult children, provided they are at least 19 years of age.

Another important part of this credit, at least part of claiming it, is knowing your earned income. The Internal Revenue Service defines earned income as any income that you earned through employment or self-employment. The amount you enter here is crucial in determining the amount of the credit you’re eligible for. Make sure to enter it correctly to avoid hassle later on.
